Why we’re different, in our students’ words:
Who we help
-
You’re not imagining it. Uni assessment expectations are often vague, inconsistent, or poorly explained. But we know what your marker is looking for.
We help if you:
aren’t sure what the task is asking for
don’t understand how your work will be judged
need help knowing if you’re on the right track for a good grade
-
You’ve seen the HD exemplar, but the process is invisible. This is one of the most common gaps, and it’s not your fault. Lecturers show lots of examples of great work. But they don’t tell you how to produce it.
We help if you:
understand the standard that’s expected, but not the steps to producing it
want to learn how to plan, structure, and build strong academic work
need help turning your ideas into high-quality submissions
-
Some units are just hard! Complex content, abstract theory, maths, stats or calculations that are out of your usual skill set. This is common at uni, and can make anyone feel lost.
We help if you:
feel stuck or confused in a difficult subject
need help understanding dense concepts
want to master challenges like stats and calculations
-
You just need information delivered in a way that works for your brain. We adapt to your pace, your style, and your processing needs.
We help if you:
need clearer, more calmly paced, or more structured explanations
thrive in one-on-one situations, not big groups
want a tutor who can adapt your content to your learning style
-
So many students struggle with the massive uni workload, the lack of oversight and the lack of structure.
We help if you:
find it hard to manage deadlines
find yourself behind every semester despite your best intentions
need regular check‑ins to stay focused
want help breaking tasks into manageable steps
-
Research degrees come with expectations that aren’t always explained. Supervisors aren’t always responsive, and feedback can be limited.
We help if you:
need more structure or feedback than your supervisor can provide
want help shaping arguments, methodology, or writing
need accountability and clarity through the research process
-
In some degrees, every mark counts. It’s intense needing consistently strong results to keep your future pathways open.
We help if you:
need higher grades for placements, honours, or postgraduate pathways
want to feel confident that each submission is top quality
want an expert edge to stay competitive
-
You’re navigating a new country, a new language, and a completely different assessment culture. That’s a huge load, and you’re not alone.
We help if you:
are adjusting to academic English
need help understanding Australian assessment expectations
want a tutor who knows your content and speaks your native language (we have multilingual tutors, and may be able to find the perfect match!)
-
You don’t want to spend a year or two doing trial and error. This is especially common for first‑years, alternative pathway students, and students returning to study after a break.
We help if you:
want consistently good results, rather than trying to fix your WAM in 3rd year
feel surprised or overwhelmed by the pace and expectations of your course
want someone to guide you through the early learning curve of university
Why connect with us
-
We’re experienced uni markers, so we know what other markers look for. Discipline conventions, genres, criteria, and all the expectations that markers have (but which never make it into the LMS…) We understand it because we’re the ones applying those standards.
We know what markers reward and what they penalise. And we’ll help you meet those expectations.
-
What helps students succeed at university isn’t just knowing the content. It’s knowing how to build and improve academic work. That’s what we specialise in.
Of course, we will help you fix a dodgy paragraph or correct a mistake in your calculations. But we also share the process that got us through undergrad, postgrad, the PhD, and peer-review – and that will help for your entire degree.
We show you how we:
break down tasks
approach difficult content
plan and structure work
think like markers
build arguments
think critically
revise effectively
manage workload and expectations
This is the part of university most students never get taught, and the part that makes the biggest difference to your grades and your confidence.
-
Uni can feel confusing, inconsistent, and overwhelming – because it is. The workload is huge, the content is complex, and the assessment tasks often feel like traps.
We use our inside knowledge as lecturers, researchers and markers to help you navigate uni’s challenges. We want you to understand how your discipline works so you can move through your degree with confidence.
-
We’re here because we know uni is hard, and we want to make it easier for students. But if we don’t feel like the right place for you, there are the other places you can get help. You might try:
University study skills centres
Great for: general writing, referencing, skills workshops, and time management advice.
Limitations: help isn’t specific to your discipline or current assessment task, and they can’t provide support with complex content
Peer tutoring
Great for: Getting study tips from current or recent students, and getting to see examples of how they completed assessment tasks
Limitations: Quality isn’t guaranteed, and units may have changed since your peer tutor did them. Peer tutors can sometimes get you into trouble with academic integrity by encouraging plagiarism or ghostwriting
Tutor marketplaces like StudentVIP or SuperProf
Good for: finding lots of tutor options at a wide range of prices
Limitations: Tutors aren’t vetted so their expertise isn’t guaranteed, and they overwhelmingly cater to primary and high-school students
AI tools
Good for: Brainstorming ideas and proofreading for grammatical errors
Limitations: AI can’t evaluate or produce quality work, markers recognise it easily, and it can’t help you with many new assessment types designed to circumvent AI. It can also definitely get you into trouble.
Assignment mills like MyAssignmentHelp
Good for: paying someone on a website or Whatsapp to write your assignment
Limitations: No seriously. Don’t use these! They’ll undermine your skills and your confidence.

Quick way to choose:
Choose an Assessment Workshop if you’re working on an assessment and have a draft, a rubric, instructions, and lecture notes we’ll need to read before your session
Choose an Academic Working Session if you want help with uni work or projects - but don’t have a draft for us to read in advance!
The long version:
An Academic Working Session is your flexible, real‑time support hour. Bring whatever you’re stuck on — content you don’t understand, exam prep, tricky concepts, questions about your assessment, research confusion, or a half‑formed idea — and your academic will work through it with you live.
It’s collaborative, practical, and responsive. Think of it as: “I need help right now with what’s in front of me.”
An Assessment Workshop is a one‑off, high‑prep deep dive into a specific assessment task. You send your task sheet, rubric, notes, draft, or research plan beforehand. Your academic prepares in advance so your hour is laser‑focused on clarity, structure, argument, and what your marker is actually looking for.
Think of it as: “I want to nail this assessment and get expert eyes on it.”
What’s the same?
Both services are delivered by academics who have taught and marked in your subject area. Both are:
Collaborative — your academic works with you, they don’t lecture you
Productive — every minute is used intentionally
Practical — focused on clarity, structure, and real academic outcomes
Designed to get you ahead — whether that’s understanding content, improving a draft, or planning your next steps
-
Each session is student‑led. Bring whatever you’re working on - your assessment brief, notes, draft, ideas, or the content you’re struggling with, and your academic will work through it with you in real time.
Across the hour, we help you:
unpack your tasks
understand the content
clarify expectations
prepare for your exam or assessment
strengthen your writing and argument
make sure you’re on track to submit strong work
It’s practical, hands‑on, and focused on helping you produce high‑quality work you feel confident submitting.
-
You can book directly with our tutors on their booking page. Just click through to your subject area and check your tutor’s availability.
-
It’s up to you!
Our workshops are one-off sessions, but your academic will let you know if they recommend follow-up academic working sessions to complete your task.
If you’re booking working sessions or foundation support, you can book a one-off session to start, or lock in a recurring time slot for weekly support.
-
Of course! If you’ve got a big assessment due and you’re stressed, you’re welcome to book an assessment workshop and as many follow-up academic working sessions in a week (or a day) as you need.
We can help you move from blank page to submission‑ready, on your timeline, at your pace, in your style.
-
We can’t guarantee outcomes. But our academics are experienced teachers and assessors. They know exactly what excellent academic work looks like, and they will provide intensive support to help you reach your goals.
